Curriculum for four year olds

During the normal session we offer 4 year olds the opportunity of ½ hour of more structured work. This takes place away from other activities and distractions and they benefit from additional equipment. Number work encourages ordering, sequencing, matching, sorting and counting. Pre-writing skills encourage the recognition and writing of their name, forming letters and being familiar with the shapes and sounds of letters.

The children solve mathematical and language problems by the use of a Vtech computer and calculators. They learn through practical activities involving floating, sinking and weighing. They undertake simple scientific investigation with microscopes and magnets.

The staff to child ratio is 1:4, which enables us to work closely with your child and develop them individually. We keep up to date records on all 4 year olds which parents can see and discuss at any time. We encourage your child to work and progress at their own pace and we work together with the parents to prepare the child for a successful transition into school.
